Yesterday’s Wisdom

“You shall rise before the gray headed and honor the presence of an old man, and fear your God: I am the Lord.” (Leviticus 19:32). Out of respect for my heritage and history, I humbly submit this article for your consideration. JDS

From the Preacher’s Pen

John 2:5 – “His mother saith unto the servants, Whatsoever he saith unto you, do it.”

Jesus was at that point in time when he was to begin his ministry. He would start it with a miracle that amazed those who knew what happened. It is interesting that only a few of the servants in the house really knew what happened, but you can be sure the word got around.

I would suppose that a mother probably knows more about her children than most anyone. I’m sure a mother would usually have more confidence in a son’s worth and abilities than anyone else. It certainly was not an unusual thing that Mary, the mother of Jesus, would have confidence in her son being able to solve a problem.

I’m not sure she knew how he would solve the problem, but he did so.

The statement she made is what should make us sit up and listen. “Whatsoever he saith unto you, do it.” I can’t think of better advice that could be given anytime. It is especially applicable for the present.

Do you want some good advice? From a mother who was close enough to have a good idea about it all? Whatever Jesus says, do it!
