Rest

“Come to Me, all [z]who are weary and heavy-laden, and I will give you rest. Take My yoke upon you and learn from Me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For My yoke is [aa]easy and My burden is light.” – Matthew 11:28-30

Come to Me, all who are weary and heavy-laden, and I will give you rest.

A divine invitation. The assurance of Jesus that allows us to hope in the midst of hopelessness, to breathe easy in a harsh, hard world. The words of compassion uttered so long ago still echo in aching hearts and souls even now. The world has never moved faster than it does today, and the rest promised by Christ is at a premium.

Take my yoke upon you and learn from Me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls.

The rest that you and I are so desperate for is not without its cost. There are still yokes to shoulder, still loads to carry, but the reason for our weariness is found in our bullheadedness and stubborn pride than in the burden we bear. Many of us are weary because we are still bearing our own yokes rather than accepting the yoke that Jesus offers.

For my yoke is easy, and My burden is light.

The yoke the world mandates, the yoke we so willingly accept, is simply too much to bear. The load placed squarely on our shoulders is hard and heavy, and yet we are still surprised at the weariness of our souls.

Jesus is offering rest, pure and perfect. Do you have faith enough to cast off the load you are bearing? Do you have enough courage to come to Him and accept His offer?
